Sonia Gandhi asked me to lead Karnataka Congress in 2005, says Mallikarjun Kharge

The senior Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, who is running to be the next chief of the party was credited by Congress vice chief Sonia Gandhi for pushing him to be chief of the Karnataka Congress chief back in 2005.

A veteran politician who is expected to be running in the Congress presidential race with Shashi Tharoor said that he was invited to meet with Sonia Gandhi for a meeting in 2005. He was also requested to be the leader of the Congress Party in Karnataka.

In the report by PTI, Kharge said he had suggested three names to her to lead this unit. Karnataka Congress unit but she wanted him to be the leader of the party in the state.

Kharge declared that he was a believer in consultation and collective leadership, and will work with all members of the party to propel his party to higher levels. Change the former Opposition Leader of Rajya Sabha, was addressing Congress members from the northeast region of Assam.

The Congress presidential election will be held between Mallikarjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor on the 17th of October. These results are expected to be revealed on the 17th of October 19.

Then, Kharge said that he decided to run for the presidential elections following the advice of senior and younger leaders who advised him to join the race. Kharge also stated that his intention was to build the party and not be a threat to any candidate.

“I believe in consultation and collective leadership… I don’t believe in people following me but want them to walk beside me. Together, we will work to strengthen the organizational set-up of the party,” the Congress veteran was quoted by PTI as saying.

Kharge stated that his main objective is to bring about the ‘Udaipur declaration’ and introduce “new blood” to the party. I’d like to appoint those less than 50 years old including women and people who belong to SCs, OBCs, and STs the 80-year-old leader declared.

Mallikarjun Kharge also called upon his party members to be together in the struggle to defeat the BJP. He stated, “The objective of BJP is to divide the country and the opposition by using central agencies”.

“The Congress has to protect the legacy of Jawaharlal Nehru. It was previously carried up through Indira along with Rajiv Gandhi. It will be our responsibility not to ignore Sonia Gandhi who has knowledge and experience having been in charge of her party for over 20 years, he said.
